As I mentioned in an earlier post, its the CO visit at my parents cong this week and I know that Tues night my dad was at a meeting until midnight. Could that have been one of these meetings? And what do they discuss for so long?

Mum was dolled up to the nines to go out on service. More so than usual. She looked like she was going to afternoon tea at The Savoy. I had to chuckle to myself.
Dad is going to get a hair cut this afternoon before the memorial.
just thought it was really funny.

I have not felt this angry and wound up in years. Those of you saying that abortion is murder have absolutely no idea what some women go through when making the decision to have a termination. Unless you have been in that position you have no grounds to make such black and white comments.
Its pure ignorance

Do JW's only help JW's in a disaster zone?
by not bitter ini've heard lots of stories over the years of the wonderful job the jw's do in assisting those in need in disaster zones whether they be earthquakes or floods.
it would always be reported that the witnesses were the most organised in setting up camps etc and would out do the red cross and other such organisitions.
but also that they would quickly set up mini congregations to keep the disaster struck brothers spiritually fed.. has anyone here been involved in disaster relief work with the witnesses to clarify:.

Has anyone here been involved in disaster relief work with the witnesses to clarify:
1) do they only give assistance to existing witnesses and potential bible studies, or to everyone?
2) can they really be more efficient and organised/successful as the Red Cross/Oxfam?
I think I know the answer to question 2.

Funniest Talk or Weird Things That Happened In Your Hall.
by Nephilim inthere is always at least 2 or 3 really crazy persons in the kingdom hall.
the kind of person that when they raise their hand the speaker on stage knows he's taking a gamble if he calls on them - yet he can't discriminate.. anyhow, i remember one time a younger brother was doing sound and one of those crazy brothers was about to give his 5 minute talk (i forget what number that was, prior to them just reading scripture).
the crazy brother slipped the young brother doing sound a cd and said "play this when i get on stage".. well, he gets up on stage and all of a sudden hawaiian music starts playing... the man on stage just starts dancing.

I was very young so don't remember all the detail but my brother who must have been aged 19 or 20, not and MS or anything came running from the back of the hall wearing a long blonde wig and jumped onto the platform and gave a talk about Samson. It made everyone laugh. I don't know if he got into trouble for it. It was 20 odd years ago. Brilliant though

Are JW's allowed to wear national dress?
by not bitter inwhilst my parents were at the meeting yesterday i let myself in to their house to look through photos.
i was looking for old family photos for a family gathering we are planning as a surprise for my folks.
anyway, there were tons of pics of them at bethel visits throughout the world.

So why is it ok to wear national dress to the assembly/meetings but not on the platform? Does that mean women as a rule can wear trousers to the hall providing they change into a skirt when giving a talk.

Did you like the Society's calendars?
by JimmyPage ini always thought they were the most boring things i'd ever seen.
a picture of someone preaching in a different land every month.. i always ended up hanging something far more entertaining, like an nfl calendar..

No I didn't. But can I just add that I bought a calendar for my mum in December which was from my 5 year old daughter and was full of sweet poems about nana's.
Now which calendar do you think my mother has up on the wall? The sentimental one from her darling grand daughter or the societies???

Whilst my parents were at the meeting yesterday I let myself in to their house to look through photos. I was looking for old family photos for a family gathering we are planning as a surprise for my folks. Anyway, there were tons of pics of them at Bethel visits throughout the world. All smiley faces as you'd expect. But what surprised me was there were quite a few group photos of brothers and sisters in their national dress. Obviously international conventions. I think thats what they call them.
Now isn't that being nationalistic? In school I was never allowed to wear the Welsh national dress on St Davids day because it was nationalistic.
Have I misunderstood? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
